Rebuilding Engagement and Morale Through a Holistic Wellness Program

Client Overview

This Ohio-based financial institution provides personal, business, and private banking services and operates across multiple branches with a workforce of approximately 230 employees.

We partnered with their HR Operations Generalist and Director of HR Operations to reintroduce and expand their employee wellness program—aiming to boost morale, reduce burnout, and drive meaningful engagement through clear communication, inclusive access, and consistent support.

The Challenge

Prior to engaging WorkSpring, this organization had a wellness program in place—but with limited visibility and inconsistent communication, employee participation remained low. Compounding this were:

  • High stress levels due to the nature of financial services
  • Increasing employee burnout
  • A growing need to re-energize and reengage staff across all departments

Leadership recognized the opportunity to revitalize their wellness efforts in a way that was inclusive, proactive, and results-driven.

Our Solution

WorkSpring collaborated closely with the HR team to launch a comprehensive, organization-wide wellness initiative that prioritized communication, accessibility, and flexibility.

Key actions included:

  • Expanding eligibility to include all employees—not just those enrolled in the medical plan
  • Multi-channel communications via email, newsletters, intranet posts, and quarterly updates to keep the program top of mind
  • Implementing a gym/fitness reimbursement program managed by a dedicated WorkSpring wellness consultant
  • Offering virtual wellness education sessions on a range of physical and mental health topics
  • Hosting Mental Health First Aid training for leaders and managers
  • Delivering biometric screening events across branches—including a “traveling” team to reach field staff
  • Launching internal and community-based wellness challenges to promote engagement
  • Organizing a Health & Benefits Fair to ensure employees were aware of available support resources

Highlights

  • Multi-touch communication helped raise awareness and drive program participation
  • Leaders and managers were active participants in wellness initiatives, leading by example
  • WorkSpring’s gift card incentives and internal recognition strategies added layers of motivation
  • Monthly Spotlight Toolkits kept wellness themes fresh and relevant throughout the year

The Results

Despite joining WorkSpring partway through the program year, the organization saw consistent growth in engagement year over year:

Year One (Late Launch):

  • 27% completed the Health Assessment
  • 13% completed a Biometric Screening

Year Two:

  • 63% completed the Health Assessment
  • 51% completed a Biometric Screening
  • Achieved the Core Level Reward

Additional Outcomes:

  • Fitness reimbursement participation increased by 78% since program launch
  • The internal Steps & Activity Challenge featured 9 teams and over 60 participants
  • Employees collectively logged 27,849,433 steps, totaling more than 12,378 miles walked

The momentum is ongoing, with continued biometric screenings, educational webinars, and internal challenges driving both excitement and outcomes.

Why It Matters

In high-pressure industries like financial services, stress and burnout can erode morale, retention, and performance. By building a strategic wellness program tailored to their diverse workforce, this organization created space for employees to prioritize their health—without sacrificing productivity or connectivity.
With WorkSpring’s support, they’ve built a culture where well-being is not just a benefit, but a business priority.
