Client Overview

Rooted in Northeast Ohio and proudly 100% employee-owned, this IT services firm has grown into a trusted partner for organizations across the country. With a client base that spans education, healthcare, nonprofits, and professional services, the company supports over 100,000 users nationwide. Its reputation as one of the region’s top IT providers is built not only on technical expertise, but also on a people-first culture—where innovation, ownership, and employee well-being go hand in hand.

The Challenge

As hybrid work became the norm, the company saw increased burnout, stress, and disconnection among its team. Employees disclosed struggles with mental health—especially anxiety, depression, and substance use. Leadership recognized the need to support managers with tools to better understand, identify, and respond to these challenges proactively.

Our Solution

WorkSpring partnered with the HR and leadership team to implement a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training strategy tailored to the organization’s wellness goals.

Key components included:

  • Skills-Based Training focused on emotional health, early identification of warning signs, and referral processes.
  • Promotion of EAP & Wellness Resources across locations—especially for remote teams.
  • Focus on Stigma Reduction through discussion, myth-busting, and real-life scenarios.
  • Peer Empowerment by strengthening internal culture and building confidence in conversations around mental health.

Highlights

  • 43 participants (leaders, managers, and team leads) completed the MHFA course over two sessions.
  • Focused on the ALGEE action plan framework: Assess, Listen, Give reassurance, Encourage help, Encourage support.
  • Provided practical, repeatable steps to respond to mental health crises with empathy and clarity.

The Results

  • 58.8% of participants felt better prepared to respond to mental health concerns.
  • 41.2% said the course better equipped them for their daily work.
  • Early intervention improved: managers were able to identify and respond to signs of burnout faster.
  • Cultural shift: Employees reported feeling more supported in bringing up stress and mental health needs.
  • Leadership confidence: Leaders expressed greater clarity on boundaries, referral pathways, and how to create psychological safety.

Why It Matters

In high-performing industries like tech, mental health support is more than a perk—it’s a necessity. Training leaders in Mental Health First Aid builds resilience, promotes early intervention, and strengthens company culture from the inside out.
