Building a Culture of Wellness in a Family-Centered Workforce

Client Overview

Since 1963, this builder has been dedicated to building not just houses—but homes that support family life. With a workforce that mirrors those values, the company operates with 66 employees across two offices in Columbus, Ohio. Their team includes a mix of in-office and field workers, requiring creative and flexible strategies to reach employees where they are.

We partnered with their Payroll Manager and Controller to create and manage a workplace wellness program that supports their values and meets evolving compliance standards.

The Challenge

As they began planning for the future of their workforce, several key issues highlighted the need for a more structured wellness program:

  • A hybrid workforce without access to onsite biometric screenings
  • Low utilization of preventive care services, leading to higher health risks
  • High turnover rates, where wellness benefits could help position the company as an employer of choice
  • A notably high obesity rate, with 56.3% of employees classified as obese and 60% indicating readiness to make a change
  • Growing pressure around wellness compliance and outcomes-based program management

The company needed a solution that could meet strict compliance requirements while making wellness accessible and engaging for a distributed workforce

Our Solution

WorkSpring provided a dedicated wellness consultant to lead a multi-faceted support strategy designed to reduce HR’s administrative burden while driving employee participation and results. The program included:

  • Personalized support for biometric screenings and health assessment completions
  • Communication planning to guide employees through the steps of scheduling appointments with their PCP or LabCorp
  • Ongoing compliance support with the management of outcomes-based metrics, including Reasonable Alternative Forms for non-compliant biometric results
  • Monthly and weekly reporting to track progress and allow HR to follow up with employees as deadlines approached
  • Regular status meetings to keep the HR team aligned and informed
  • Participation campaigns and gift card raffles to keep employees motivated and engaged

Highlights

  • Successfully met a Level Reward for two consecutive years, despite not offering onsite biometric screenings
  • Engaged a largely field-based workforce with clear, timely communications and flexible options for participation
  • HR leveraged WorkSpring-provided templates and reminders to consistently educate employees and drive action
  • Employees clearly understood the steps to complete the program and avoid higher premium rates—demonstrating strong engagement and personal accountability

The Results

Over the first two years of program participation, the company saw strong outcomes:

  • 75.41% of employees completed biometric screenings
  • 64.80% of employees completed online health assessments
  • 31.59% met at least 3 of 5 NIH biometric targets

These results reflect a workforce that is increasingly aware of their health, and supported by a company that truly values well-being.

Why It Matters

A well-structured wellness program is more than a benefit—it's a strategy. By addressing physical, mental, and emotional well-being, the company has built a healthier workforce, improved retention, and ensured compliance with evolving wellness standards.

With WorkSpring as a trusted partner, they are not only supporting individual employee health but also creating a resilient, family-focused culture for years to come.

What Our Member Had To Say

“Our group has had great success with encouraging employees to use the Provider Screening Form and LabCorp options for the Biometric Screening requirement. We found that offering these alternatives gave people more control over their schedules and reduced the pressure of needing a single on-site event. Clear communication, reminders, and making the process as simple as possible were key to driving participation.”
