Keeping employer posters up to date is an essential part of labor law compliance and HR risk management.

In most cases, you’ll need to update your Labor Law posters whenever the meaning or wording of a state or federal law changes. Updates may be required annually or more frequently, as employment laws may change at any time.

However, a brand-new Labor Law poster may not always be required. If the change is relatively minor, your employer and employee posters can often be amended rather than replaced. For example, you may be able to correct a specific section of your existing poster.

Federal poster requirements are identical for all U.S.-based businesses. State poster requirements are unique to each state.

The contents of state and federal Labor Law posters also differ. While federal regulations may contain information about workplace safety and FMLA laws (the Family and Medical Leave Act), state posters typically relate to minimum wage, workers’ compensation, and unemployment insurance.
