National Nutrition Month® is an annual campaign established in 1973 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and it is celebrated throughout the country each year in March.
This year’s theme is “Food Connects Us.” Food brings people together. It connects us to our cultures, our families, and our friends. We celebrate holidays, birthdays, weddings, baby showers, and funerals with food. Sharing a meal or coffee is an opportunity to stop and think about its preparation, its ingredients, and its nutritional value.
With Spring being on the horizon, March is a perfect time to think more carefully about what kinds of foods we put into our bodies. There are many ways in which we can make better food choices such as:
• Eating more fresh foods
• Avoiding fast food
• Planting a garden
• Choosing whole grains
• Eating from a smaller plate
• Slowing down
Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring. To make it more interesting, consider learning some fun food facts.
